Suggested starting age for all classes is 12 years old
Fonts Matter
Requires Adobe Illustrator Subscription
This course is an intro to typography, which most people understand today as fonts. As dull as a class about fonts may sound, there is much more to it. A good designer always understands which fonts are best for each job. Students explore a brief history of typography and the reason and purpose behind the countless designs along with the proper use of fonts for different applications. Students will discover how artists develop letters and learn the process to create their own consistent set of fonts. The lessons are put to practical use through various assignments that progressively apply the knowledge. In addition to creating what is expected in a class about letters (mock flyers, posters, letterhead, etc.), students will also explore more exciting ways to use letters including pattern creations, expressive typography, drawing with type [see font dragon above] and themed letters from your environment.

Everywhere You Look
Prerequisite: Drawing I and Fonts Matter or their equivalents
Requires Adobe All Apps Subscription
Everywhere You Look is an intro to graphic design. Graphic design is a combination of drawing and computer skills necessary to develop various design elements and structures, providing a visual message or brand to promote or sell a product, entity or service. Graphic designers are often illustrators who also work digitally to create work that includes any combination of physical drawings and paintings, photography, digital designs and text. All you need to do to discover what a graphic designer does is open your eyes and look around. Most everything created by human hands is not complete until a graphic designer adds the finishing touch. The millions of logos on every product, business, sports team, etc. The little designs most people ignore on paper plates, cups, napkins etc. The fancy china that only comes out on special occasions. The decorative pillows on your couch. Nearly everything that has print on it is because of a graphic designer. A graphic designer was paid to create these very letters (Filson Soft) you are reading!

No Mess Painting is an intro to digital painting. Students will learn many of the same concepts used in traditional painting (think Bob Ross), but without the traditional mess! This course is great for students who have never painted and for those already familiar with the real thing. Digital painting is an emerging art form where traditional painting techniques such as watercolor, oils, impasto, etc. are applied using software and digital tools on a computer or tablet. From medicine to law, digital artists have a hand in nearly every industry and digital painting is especially prevailing in commercial production studios that create video games, television, film, advertising and software design companies.
